About this list
What qualifies as ‘Pleasure Goods’ for women is a matter for some debate. WSS believes that there is a broad and interlinked range of products that women might want to buy from any given retail outlet. In the last two or three years the quality and design of many products has improved to the point where they can truly be said to be desirable or aspirational to own and use.
This obviously applies to sex toys but equally does so for all manner of other goods such as lubricants, lingerie, fetish, bodycare and chocolate. In assembling this list we have tried to illustrate what might be included - in a light hearted way. There is no ranking because it would be impossible to compare a book to a vibrator or a paddle to a basque or a bottle of champagne. These are 50 nice things that every woman might want. Most importantly, they help to define how we should think about women's retail experience and - if these products have an emotional linkage - shouldn't that be reflected in store design and merchandising?
